Go to your local university or Community College and tell them you want a computer programming or game design degree. Most companies want you to have experience with coding if you want to go into testing.

Working in Google as a tester may be a good place to start off.

But, I am sceptical whether you will ever get to become a developer, not just in Google, but in any software house unless they are seriously short of developers. But in most cases, good testers are in short supply.

I would advise you to stick to various types of testing and extend your skills to build and configuration management.

Absolutely not. You are required to have the same career your entire life. You must like what you do, never be promoted, and never switch departments. Its entirely not normal.

From all of the IT people I've spoken with, and my own observations, testing is one of the most dreaded tasks on any project. The other is documentation, and writing test cases would involve both. (!) It's also essential to the success of a project, so if you can tolerate or even enjoy that which others cannot, it may be a good niche for you.
