Career Test What Should I Be

Marion Said:

What should I do for a living?

We Answered:

Have you thought about teaching or possibly doing something on Business side of the music or art industry?

Julie Said:

What type of SAT II Subject Tests should I take for my career?

We Answered:

You are only taking Subject Tests for college admissions - they really have no other purpose. Since you aren't sure what you want to do, you have presumably not chosen a major at your prospective college(s) so it also really doesn't matter WHICH tests you take as much as it matters that you do as well as possible on the tests. That said, you should choose the two tests that you feel you are best prepared to take. If Spanish is one of them, that would be an obvious good choice. Of the other possibilities:

English Literature
U.S. History
World History
Mathematics Level 1
Mathematics Level 2
Biology E/M
Chemistry
Physics

- none really jump out at you and scream "take me!". English Literature or US History are probably the most "universal" subjects there, unless you are very comfortable with SAT math.

Be sure that none of your prospective colleges require specific Subject Tests - you don't want to have to scramble to deal with that problem just to get into the school you prefer.

Cory Said:

What sort of test should I take to find out what I'd like to do for a career?

We Answered:

There should be some folks at college who can administer the Strong Interest Inventory. It will give you some idea, though in my opinion, only a vague one.

Personally, and based on experience, I'd recommend that you take what classes interest you, at a speed that allows you to do well.

Don't go for just the easy or fun stuff, because everybody can do that... y'know? ;-) It sounds like you're good at math and chemistry, so perhaps chemistry is a good place to start. But I'd have a look at the courses that are taught, take some challenging "core" classes that you're capable of (Calculus is good for a lot of stuff, and probably something you do well), and don't make up your mind until you have to.

FYI, I didn't make up my mind for a LONG time. And I ended up with two simultaneous Bachelor's degrees, in Mechanical Engineering and Psychology, and a Master's in Computer Science.

Do what you want to do, but challenge yourself and do your best! Sorry if this advice is vague or unhelpful.

Julie Said:

Where do I find a test that tells me what my career should be?

We Answered:

1. Search online for "Occupational Interest Survey".
2. If you have a guidance counselor, ask for help finding your interests.
3. Some community colleges give these tests.
4. Military recruiters often give these tests.

Andrew Said:

Is there a quiz/test online that will tell you where you should live?

We Answered:

Duh! of coarse there is.

Jeremy Said:

Has anyone taken this career test? IF so, what career should I have?

We Answered:

Jeez!!! Four spam-posts right off the bat? Yikes, lol...

Some ideas for careers you might be good at...

Counselor and teacher stand out, maybe child/teen psychologist? Those strengths go really well with those kinds of careers...
