There are different types of color deficiency and varying degrees. Most males are red/green deficient meaning red and green are dampened for you and can sometimes appear grayish. You may have taught yourself to identify shades of these colors to well known objects like ketchup and bananas since you can not see the redness that another person does when they look at ketchup but you know it as ketchup. There are other more in depth color vision tests that can specifically identify which color spectrum you have trouble with. I am an eye doctor in the military and red/green vision is required for pilots and I believe military police. I would check the requirements for the state you would like to work in and if you are going to be a state trooper or local....some vary in regulation.
