Myers Briggs Test

Shane Said:

Tell me all about the Myers Briggs test?

We Answered:

Also called the MBTI. Go to their official site: http://www.myersbriggs.org to learn all about the personality types

There are four main areas rated:

Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I)
Sensing (S) or Intuitive (N)
Thinking (T) or Feeling (F)
Judging (J) or Perceiving (P)

In MBTI lingo, the results of an individual's preference might be "ESTJ" or "INFP". There are 16 distinct "types" i.e. combinations of these letters. There are tons of studies and resources for discovering how each preference prefers to interact with the world. Search the web.

While officially the MBTI must be administered by a trained professional facilitator (I used to be one and the certification foused on test administration and espeially on debriefing people to understand their preferences under ertain situations (stress, needs, etc) so people understand how to use this knowledge to their advantage. There is NO RIGHT or WRONG type, just personality preferences.

You can go to this unofficial site to take a simulated MBTI.

Beth Said:

What does my myers-briggs test result mean? What's the difference between judging and perceiving?

We Answered:

Judging and Perceiving are preferences used in the Jungian Type Inventory. The naming is unfortunately a bit archaic as judging is more than evaluation and intuiting is not about looking at thing.

They are about how we approach life: in a structured way or an open, flexible way.

Perceiving
Perceivers perceive structure as being more limiting than enabling. They prefer to keep their choices open so they can cope with many problems that the know life will put in their way.

They get their sense of control by keeping their options open and making choices only when they are necessary.

They are generally curious and like to expand their knowledge, which they will freely acknowledge as being incomplete. They are tolerant of other people's differences and will adapt to fit into whatever the situation requires.

At work, they tend to avoid or put off decisions and like most the exploration of problems and situations.

Judgers may see them as aimless drifters.

Norman Said:

What are some ways in which the Myers-Briggs test is not good for children?

We Answered:

because children change and as an adult they might have an opposite personality. jung had some cool ideas, but tests can't define anyone.
