Do I "believe" in them? Well, sure, they do exist. Do I believe they're useful? Yes, but within limits.
At best they try to make sense out of a phenomenal number of axes of behavior. They are indicative of particular traits, but they are limited by whatever models of personality they're based on. Their strengths come from their having been around so long as to generate tons of data, which, in turn, help to develop more sophisticated models of personality.
So, what is personality? An intellectual construct which purports to predict tendencies towards a certain set of behaviors, such as what answers you put on the tests. Does behavior change with time? Absolutely.
So, if you're trying to find out "who" you are, you have to recognize that these results aren't at all "written in stone." Look for general tendencies, not behavioral "rules."

I've never taken a professional personality assessment test before and I already know the outcome if I were to take one anyways...
But maybe your therapist is just trying weigh the possibilities? I don't think you should be worried, she's only trying to help you and if you're really uncomfortable with taking the test then point that out to her. Maybe you could take it another time after discussing why she thinks you should take it.

I'm not sure what the assessment test you are taking. Was it an integrity test? If that's the case then don't be "by the book". Think what would the "average Joe" say for this question.

I failed an integrity test once and I couldn't believe it. Then I was told that former military (which I am) and law enforcement people often fail because they see the worst in people (go figure). Good Luck!
