Some companies may actually want you to test the software before they start ranking you up, so you know what you are looking for, when you design, and debug software.

yes there are chances for you to get into the software industry.but if i have to tell u the fact ..people dont consider a candidate having commerce background..they will look for people from computers background ore even science background and engineers are of course preferred better.
my sincere suggestion to u is, do a Pg in some computer science course like an MCA(3yrs) or Msc computers(2years). after that u can go for employment in the software industry..then u can even have better options than Testing..

Any IT career or any other stream career is as good as you take it. Testing in IT is a very exciting opportunity. Indian IT scene works on the users requirements and doesnt require the programmers on their own regarding innovations. So it is easier for programmers to just test the conformities.

However a great deal of innovation can be added by a tester when the Product development gathers steam in India. Many might feel that product development will not grow in India, but I disagree. Eventually there will be a substantial place for the IT product makers. In that case it will be very vital break through for the testers.

Merely be a conformity quality testers will sure give good placements, but it will make great sense for the innovative testers.

Please get into the learnings of the testing. You will enjoy it. Anyone who is comfortable with documentation will enjoy it, but others will not be very comfortable. Testing recrutiment is on roll so you are also sure to get openings.

Just attempt to become an ideas tester, an innovator and that will give you openings leading to more enjoyment.

That kind of job was paying about $25/hr 20 years ago at Xerox. They wouldn't hire anyone who knew about computers because they knew the people would quit very soon because the job is incredibly boring and unchallenging. Lots of repetition testing drivers over and over.

Testing is good and fun but when u want to migrate you must learn it before you are into a project,as u said u are a programmer so u dnt find much difficulty migrating to testing.
