Student Career Test

Christina Said:

I want a career test that just flat out tells me what i should be?

They aren't exactly that accurate but they can give you some good ideas to work from and sometimes they do indeed nail your personality and find an occupational match.

Probably among the best is the Strong Interest Inventory. You can get some decent versions online and sometimes even free but the best results will come from getting it professionally interpreted for you. Any HS or university career counselor should have it available as will any vocational counselor in private practice. https://www.cpp.com/products/strong/inde…

Another, interesting but not as useful, assessment is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. In the hands of a good career advisor it can really help identify careers you're particularly suited toward by personality.

Remember though - an interest inventory isn't the same as an aptitude or personality examination. They are both good tools for career research but they are looking at different attributes.

Also remember that these aren't meant to define you as a worker but to help you make decisions. Just because a Strong's says you might like to be an artist doesn't mean that you should or can become an artist - only that you might like it. If a Myers-Briggs says you're not really suited toward teaching - that doesn't mean that you shouldn't or can't become a teacher - only that your personality type isn't typical for teachers. Interpreting these metrics is one of the reasons it's good to hire a professional to help.

Some people will tell you that there's no way an assessment like this can define you. They are correct to a degree - the purpose isn't to pigeon-hole you, the purpose is to give you ideas. And, with that purpose in mind they are very good for giving you ideas to look at.
