First, let me say I'm an SOA Architect, Integration Designer, Legacy Domain Lead & some time PM.

Rule # 1 - the project manager makes the final decision. You get to provide your professional opinion & if the PM doesn't take it, it's their problem. Emails are great for CYA in this case.

Next understand your PM may have some in depth experience - but he has to oversee 6-8 skillsets. That can be VERY difficult. So, if the PM doesn't make the decision YOU want, it might be because YOU weren't convincing enough.

In the end, the PM is always unappreciated by many - but they have overall responsibility for just about anything - it's a tough job.

I used to work in a field related to aptitude testing and have done some study on the linking of job performance and aptitude tests. Having the right test for the job is known as the validity of a test. Having an aptitude test with math, English and logic for say, a caregiver's or even a salesman's job is totally INVALID. There is no correlation between a person's score on the test and his or her on-the-job performance.

However, many companies have HRs who either don't care or simply don't understand the relevance of the right kind of tests. They use it as a screening mechanism to reduce the number of candidates they need to interview. They need to use the right kind of psychometric test, but all of those are expensive, so they end up using common aptitude tests.

If you want to be treated and paid poorly as an employee, I highly recommend working fo Maersk... unless your Danish then you'll do well.

It can help boost your concentration when used over an amount of time such as a week or two. So with that being said i do not believe that it will help you to much by tomorrow. But if you tell yourself that you believe in it then it will probably have a placebo effect and believe it or not that little mind trick can actually help you out considerably.

I worked for PC World many years ago, and never had to take an aptitude test! Had to take a multiple choice test which was computer related but that we really easy.

Must say they were awful to work for, absolutely no loyalty to employees. They used to take on a load of people in the autumn and gave them all the "job for life" chat about how good it was to work for them, and how good the prospects were , and then sacked them all after christmas. This was pot luck, every 30 mins or so they would call out an employees name over the tannoy, and you went to office and got sacked. This would go on for a couple of days, and you never knew if your name would be next!

In the end they ran down the staff so much that there were 5 of us running a massive superstore. You got roles for the day that involved several peoples jobs, such as "today you are doing security, customer service and tills", and you'd be running around like mad trying to server 20 or so customers at a time. All this and you still got the same low wages!

There was also no trust and you got delayed going home to be searched. They also put in the contract that they had the right to search your car and even your home if they suspected you of theft.

I worked there for a year and then decided I`d had enough and quit!
