Melissa Said:

We Answered:

Museums, lots of Museums: The MFA (art) Isabella Stuart Gardner (art) ICA (art) The Aquarium, The Science Museum, Harvard and MIT museums, not to mention all the Historical sites; sites along the Freedom Trail, John Adams House

Check listings for concerts, plays and other events

Red Sox Game,or other sports event

Visit the Harbor Islands, Whale watch, Blue Hills State reservation

shopping, lots of shopping in Quincy Market, Newbury Street or Harvard Square in Cambridge, also visit the insanely overpriced Copley Place Mall

Duck tours

Go to the top of the Prudential Tower for a great view

and yes, visit an employment agency, you will need to get a job lined up before you make the move to Boston.
In Boston you will need lots of winter gear. Winters in New England are not fun, and you will need lots of heavy clothes in order to stay warm. Winters are very cold here. If you are from a warm climate, you will be in for a very rude surprise. Unlike other parts of the country where it is only very cold for a week at most, in New England it can be extremely cold for months on end

How to deal with gym debt?

We Answered:

If you have copies of the original contract, the letter you sent to them ending the contract, any other documents, etc - make copies and send them, by certified mail, to the collection agency.

State that if you receive any more harrassing letters/phone calls, you will contact a lawyer, because you have not broken any contract with them, and you'd just love to sue them and own a little collection agency of your own.

How can I find an internship on craigslist?

We Answered:

You aren't going to find internships on craigslist, most of the jobs listed there are scams. You need to speak with your school placement office. Every internship I had during college was listed in our university placement office

Ian Said:

Do employers in Boston have a bias if you're not from around the area?

We Answered:

It's basically just the economy and timing right now. I was applying for jobs in DC and I was told the same thing- that there are so many unemployed there right now that they want to hire people who live there already to give them a chance. It's bull but there's really not much you can do about it until the job market picks back up again. Also might have to do with the students in Boston having internships with those companies and then when they graduate they are offered the jobs because the company already knows they are reliable/hardworking/etc. Don't give up, you'll find something eventually.

US Government Economics Exam?

We Answered:

Yeah, that sounds like the FAME program offered by the Social Security Administration. FAME= the Federal Alzheimers Memory Exam. It is used to help SSA determine how long they will have to pay Social Security Insurance to people before they forget who they are. My guess is they are going to save a bundle on you.
