Agencies respond quickly to profiles/backgrounds/skills that are in their skill set focus. If you have not heard from them, it is likely that your profile isn't a close match for their needs.

If you want to pursue agencies as a job source, you need to qualify them:

-What skills do they focus on?
-What companies/industries do they do most of their work with?
-What type of reputation do they have?

If you go without an appointment, you may find yourself making a trip for nothing, as they will differ you to their screening process - which sounds like it's online. A better solution would be to call and ask to speak to someone about the profile you submitted, and let them know you are interested to know exactly what they look for, or are in need of. If you do this, you will set yourself apart from others who submit and sit back - and that tells them you are interested in working. If you get nowhere with his, it's time to do two things:

If the agency focuses on your skill set, you need to look at how you are presenting yourself, because it's disconnecting from the people who can help you find work. You should also ask them specifically what is missing. This will help you fill in the gaps as you move forward.

If you find the agency is not focused on your skill set, you need to continue to market yourself until you find an agency that is a match for your background.

I've come into contact with some of these places through ought my career searches and have never once landed a job through them. Maybe that has just been my experience and others have better stories to tell, but I just see them as a waste of time. I have even come across some of these recruiters who are extremely rude and condescending. I do find it odd that they would call u from such a far distance, but perhaps that agency is recruiting for a position in your area. I'd be leary.
