If you already went through the agency, they'll know if you go around them (directly to the employer). Why? The employer will probably say something to the agency. You see, these agencies have a relationship with the employer long before you come to the agency. There usually is a contract between the two so if you cut someone out, it will be known.
Now, if you go straight to an employer without the help of an agency, then you won't be accused of cutting out the middleman. One way of getting yourself "out there" in the market on your own is to network. Heck, I just went to a chambers of commerce get-together the other day, and I got 2 job offers.
