i am a foster carer in merseyside. i am a single parent and prefer to foster pre school children so this prevents me from working. it works well when i have a placement, but when the child moves on i am struggling financially as we are not paid a retainer and this could go on a while. i have decided after 7 years to get a job in a school and foster children with additional needs at the weekend. if you foster school age children you can have a job as long as the child can be cared for out of school hours. i think they like foster carers to be available for training and reviews so i dont know how other people manage.
