Does anyone know about pre employment credit checks?

We Answered:

In response to a couple of the answers here, one thing to keep in mind is that Background Checks vs. Credit Checks are two different things...

Credit checks are run for two reasons:

1) In cash handling or financial (i.e. accounting) positions, they want to see your overall credit worthyness to assess your potential for fraud, theft, etc... (but still can't make too harsh of a judgment - that's what criminal background checks are for)

2) In financial & insurance institutions, they want to see your overall credit worthyness AND make sure you don't have any outstanding debts to any of their major customers (where you could potentially manipulate your own account).

For employer credit checks, they CAN NOT see your actual credit score. Typically, they will only fail you on credit based on MAJOR derogatory history, i.e. not only bankruptcy, but looking to see if you continued to not pay your debts even after a bankruptcy.

Most employers who review credit, also know that medical is an area that hits a lot of people and we tend to disregard.

You are probably fine. You just need to concentrate on passing the exam!!! Good luck!

Emma Said:

If you are receiving un-employment, can a collection agency garnish your wages if you are not able to afford ?

We Answered:

Nobody can garnish your wages or seize assets without first going to court and getting a judgment. Most Doctors, hospitals, medical people will work out a reasonable payment plan unless you let it go to collection. Sometimes you can work out a plan with the collection agency. Only other option is chapter 11.

Everyone understands people struggle sometimes through no fault of their own. However, the vast majority of people who lose their homes, cars get repossessed, or get into situations like yourself, could have avoided it by going to creditor and working with them first. But most let it slide and simply avoid them until it's too late.
