Employment Agencies San Francisco

Sean Said:

Temp agencies that focus on Non-profit sector in SF Bay Area, CA?

We Answered:

I don't know of any that focus specifically on nonprofits -- just like for-profit businesses, individual nonprofits tend to hire whichever service or company is best for it -- one nonprofit may use one company, but another nonprofit may use another. Call really large nonprofit organizations in your area (San Francisco Opera, KQED, etc.) and ask them if they use any particular temp agency to fill their temp staff needs.

Also, give CompassPoint Nonprofit Services a call -- they may know which nonprofits are using what service.

What are the distinctions from Employment Agency, Staffing Agency, Headhunters? And how to find them?

We Answered:

Hello NeedHelp, that's what where here for...
Although they call themselves different things they are all much the same. The best way to distinguish them is their field of specialisation. Some specialise in casual labour for overflow situations whereas others emphasise recruitment and finding the best candidates.

If you are looking for a job, it won't cost you as most recruiters get paid by employers.

Best to buy the local paper or go on-line to find a job. Good luck!

Where can you go....?

We Answered:

Report them to the Better Business Bureau and you could even shoot off an e-mail to the state Attorney General. As you say, nothing will be done.

Look for jobs on your own rather than pay some agency to do so for you.

We Answered:

None that are reputable should charge you.

Employment Agency finds you more permanent work. They charge a fee to companies that hire you.

Staffing agencies are more like temp services. The employer pays the fees

Headhunter is for professional and specialized services as well as management. These are people that find really well qualified employees for a company. They charge the company for a placement.

Employment agency's a rip off?

We Answered:

The wonderful world of employment agencies (recruiters.) It's not a rip off unles they are asking you for money and that would be illegal. Here is how it works. You send your resume and then they ask to meet with you in person although they probably have nothing just so they can tell the client they have met you personally blah blah blah. The resumes are not tossed away, but if they do not have anything for you the resume is basically put in a file that I like to call "the rejects file." Meaning they can probably find yu a job but not for the amount of money as other candidates that will pay there hefty commission which is anywhere between 18% to 30% . What you need to do and many do not realize is all agencies have a specialized field. This could be they cater specifically to administrative jobs (secretary, receptionist, etc...), IT (information technology), or executive staffing. Before you go to any agency ask them what is there specialty. If they say they cater to all fields this is not an agency you want to deal with.

I need some help with finding a new job?

We Answered:

Hi,

The most important thing to remember about job searches is that you should use a combination of methods:

Networking - Register at your local Unemployment Office (you don't need to be on unemployment to register for their assistance). They often will have networking groups on a regular basis. They also are a good source for the jobs that never show up in the paper or online.

Check your local paper -- In many cases the paper's classified are now online.

Search Smart Online -- If you don't have a lot of time, spend most of your time at sites that aggregate the job feeds from several job search engines. Prominently these include indeed.com and thingamajob.com.

Organization -- I use a free online application that allows you to track your ads, jobs you apply for, send or print mail merged correspondence, and track your job search history. This site is jobsearchlog.com and it has been very useful to me, please go and check it out!

Good Luck,

Karen
