Employment Agency In Nyc

Rita Said:

Temp Agency Being Dishonest With Me?

We Answered:

The temp agency doesn't sound very reputable. The agency should be very used to people having to quit abruptly as many people that temp are actually looking for a job. I'm not sure why you suggested that she was being "greedy" though.

Even at permanent employment nowadays, unless you are in an upper management position, a two-week notice is rarely heard of anymore.

Also, it's bizarre that it was a 4-week "long-term" temp job and she asked you for a 2-week notice. That's ridiculous.

Additionally, tell her a "long-term" assignment in the temp agency business is 3 months or longer...not 4 weeks.

If she tries to hold your check for the days you worked because she said you went back on your word about staying the 4 weeks, reminder her that New York is an "employment at will" state and you (or she) can terminate the employment at any time for any reason (or for no reason) unless it is because of your race, religion, or gender. If she still doesn't give you your check, call a lawyer. I hope it doesn't come to that.

Good Luck at your new job!!!
