They got you a job but you never heard from them again when you wouldn't use their web site for a visa? Is this not enough to convince you the job never existed?

Employment recruiters make their money by charging a significant commission to the employer based on your first year of salary.

The commission for placing you in this supposed job would have been much greater than the fee they would have received for their "visa service".

Come on! Scam - plain as day!

I am not sure whether Sify is involved in consultant business.

Anyway, you can do these:
a.) Any consultancy which wants to do overseas manpower recruitment business must register with the 'Govt of India' - "Ministry of Overseas department". So, contact this office and try to find out whether this consultancy is a registered one or not. If it's registered then no problem.

b.) One more option is: contact BOC Edwards company directly through phone or mail them. The contact details you can get from their website. First send them a mail; if they don't respond then call them (no harm in spending 100 rupees or so). Tell them all the details and ask them whether

"Sify consultant is a authorized consultant for BOC edwards or not?", they will tell you the exact thing.
