It Employment Agency

Carrie Said:

Can I register with more than one employment agency at the same time?

We Answered:

Yes, you can. Register, make the best interview possible and ace the tests they give you. You still have to get assigned. Depending on the assignment you may have to choose your availability. Go for it!!! and most importantly...IT'S A NUMBERS GAME!!!!

Rodney Said:

Is there anything I should know before using an employment agency?

We Answered:

I have honestly found working for an employment agency to be extremely helpful. What I liked is the variety of assignments I received. I was exposed to working in different companies and environments and it gave me an idea of what work environments really suited me. Also, temping is a great way to find employment in that if you're already working for a company and a position opens up you are already there and have hopefully networked and made contacts so that you are able to be considered. The agency charges a rate to the employer, for instance let's say it's an administrative position and based on the skills the agency charges the employer $21.00 and your rate of pay is $14 or $15 per hour or something, that's how it works. As you aren't a full time employee there are no benefits, although some agencies are now offering benefits to their temps but the rate is usually higher than if you were with a permanent employer. Also, if you are specific about the types of work/assignments you're interested in and the agency routinely contacts you for something you're completely unsuited for, i.e. you're a computer programmer and they contact you for a manufacturing position and that's all they contact you for then I would advise the agency but if they continue to do it I'd not work with them. As a rule of thumb I suggest signing up with at least 3 agencies and then keeping in contact with them at least 3 times per week. Develop a rapport with the agent you're assigned to so that they want to work with you and you are memorable. Best of luck!

Beth Said:

Should I go through the employment agency?

We Answered:

It depends on the nature of the role. If it's a consultant / temporary role that's being contracted through the agency, it's unlikely that the company will want to accept resumes directly, as then you'd be on their payroll as opposed to the agency's.

If the role is a full time role at the company, and the agency is acting like a "headhunter" then the company will likely welcome your resume directly. It may save them the introduction fee that the agency will charge.

If your goal is to simply get the job under any circumstance, then I'd pick the simpler route and go through the agency. They can pre-screen you, prepare you for the interview, etc. which could be best for your chances of getting the job.

Good luck!

Phillip Said:

Can an employment agency pay you less that what you asked for?

We Answered:

They can't pay you less than what the actual job pays. They will always try to find you a higher paying job and do not benefit from paying you less. They actually benefit when paying you more.

They provide you a list of jobs that are available, whether those jobs meet your needs is another story. The employment agency doesn't have the authority to pay you higher it's the company that you are temporarily working for that is actually paying you.

Harry Said:

Does an employment agency have the right to levy a fee on the candidate if he fails to stay for a min period?

We Answered:

Winnable? Probably not. It would not be in the contract if it wern't deemed enforcable by the company lawyers.

Jessie Said:

How much does it cost to use an employment agency?

We Answered:

They never charge you always the employer. Example the employer may use Kelly services and pay them 10.00 per hour. Kelly services will pay you 8.00 dollars per hour. The good news is businesses are desperate to find good help so it is worthwhile to them to hire you instead of paying the staffing agency a 2.00 per hour fee. Also, if you go to work for the company they can afford to pay you a higher rate because they are no longer paying the staffing company. However, business also use staffing agencies for temporary assignments like when an employee is on maternity leave. It is no guarantee that you will get a permanent position but usually within a few months something will stick. You can also you staffing companies on your resume and many offer free classes like typing to help develop your business skills. In my opinion, staffing companies are great. Just do a little research online like Better Business Bureau to make sure they have a good track record of paying employees on time.

Kimberly Said:

What are the employment agency that charge you to find a job?

We Answered:

In the UK employment agencies charge the employer not you. if they charged the unemployed looking for a job they would go bankrupt. If you state what sort of job your boyfriend is looking for perhaps we could be of more help.
