I believe employers need to keep a copy of your record of employment for 7 years. They can be audited by not only Revenue Canada, but also by Employment Insurance. As far as I know, that is for anyone who employs anyone in Canada.

Employers need to send an ROE (record of employment) copy to Service Canada for their records. You can also go to your local Service Canada and go thru them to try and get your ROE. (or see the link I provided) They can send a letter to the employer etc. If they still cant get it, they can search their own archives and see if the copy is still there. You have to usually provide a paystub for them to show you worked for that company etc. (if it is on a microfiche copy I think they keep it for 10 years at Archives)

Typically employment agencies hire out work so you would actually be working elsewhere. Employers needing temporary workers will typically call the agency and let them know what they need, then the agency chooses people who fit the description. When you are chosen and accept, they will tell you exactly when and where you need to go.

Initially no, but when you go for a job and the hiring company extends an offer then agencies like Kelly will be abiding by their rules and almost all companies will want a background investigation which usually involves credit check, and drug test performed. Can't get out of them by going though agency. Keep in mind that when they are doing a credit check they are looking for major debt that could make you a liability risk. If you think this is an issue than be honest and state you have some rough credit but if you are trying to clean it up than let them know that too. In this economy the fact that this issue is more prevalent may end this practice not sure though.

Why wouldn't it be? They'll give you a few tests to determine your ability in those areas then help you find something either temporary or maybe temporary that could lead to full time after a trial period.

They "sell" your services to a company for say $30 per hour. In turn, the agency will pay you $20 per hour and keep $10 per hour for themselves. That is how they earn their money.
