They charge the employer not the employee. Most staffing companies hire on a temp basis and the position has the possibility of going permanent. Some will hire direct permanent but that not all that common. Companies like to use staffing companies so they can test the water with the person before hiring them permanently. Usually a 30-90 trial period. You would be working for the staffing company not the company your are assigned to in till you go permanent.

Mechanical Engineering - you should check on your school web site they usually do placement for the type of career. Also they might Jobs posted on there web site I know all of my school did.

If you do decided to go with a staffing agencies you want to go with a local one in your area that does engineering staffing.
