How about "temp" agencies, like Kelly or Manpower? They often have a lot of short term jobs, a few days here or there.

Pay usually depends on experience, so make sure they know all your skills

i was once in your situation a long time ago.
i was in a job which paid little,had little job satisfaction and no opportunity for advancement.
i don't know how i stuck it out for 4 years but i did until they forced me to change shifts,working hours which daycare didn't cover.
i finally made the decision to leave and trialed and errored a few jobs on the way,gaining different experience,skills and more friends i would definitely leave or maybe ask for a transfer to another department or store?
anyway if you choose to leave there are many enjoyable jobs out there ( and some horrible too ) but if you never take the step you will never know.
i am working through an agency at a warehouse with view to permanent in 4 months.the pay ( for Australian purposes) is good ( $ 19 an hour ) and when you go to permanent it's even better ( $ 24 an hour starting rate ).the people ( co workers and supervisors ) treat you with respect and are all very helpful.so yeah i vote for change,you will be happier and will achieve more than you ever thought possible.

When you start looking at the money that isn't being spent at all, and as more people start realizing how bad things might get, it is going to affect everybody, really. Bare necessities for food, fewer trips to the hardware store, fewer extras, like going out to any fast food, cutting down from brand names to generics, and then each time a place closes, this circle gets more momentum, fewer jobs, less money until we hurt like never before!
