Secretarial Employment Agencies

employment agencies?We Answered:
I would actually recommend doing your own searches...I worked for an agency, and what the answerer above said sometimes rings true. It depends on what area you live in how much work is available, and the agency may not have a lot of open jobs. Furthermore, you wait twice as long for a probationary period when going through agency. For example, normally, 90 days....but you spend the first 90 under the agency and then the company you work for usually makes it another 90 once they hire you.Casey Said:
Have I been too cocky with an employment agency? We Answered:
Hi~ I guess it depends to the person you said it to, The person could take it the wrong way, or find humor in it as I would try to do. I have worked in the Agency Employment/ Staffing Business (Healthcare) for over 10 yrs. and speed is the name of the game. If one snoozes, the loose. Just the case with this agency you may have let know were on the slow side placing for a position. They loose if another agency places you. You gain. Good for you fo signing with more than one agency. You can't wait around for people who may not find you work. See I am a people person, I build good, friendly relations with the staff, keep open communication with them as well. This has made for a mutually happy placement in most cases for the both of us! If you want to stay busy, maybe call every day if you want, I didn't mind when employees called me everyday. It shows eagerness to be placed.Keep in mind these agencies play games too! They have favorites... become one, humor them to get what you need.Best of luck!

Read "What Color Is Your Parachute?" to get the full scoop on employment agencies, but here's the Cliff Notes. They do not exist to find you a job, certainly not the job for which you are most qualified. They exist to fill holes in the offices of a select handful of industries (marketing, management, bookkeeping, clerical, receptionist, etc.). It's just like going to a car salesman. If you don't walk out of that office THAT DAY with a job, that person has failed at theirs AND YOU WILL NEVER HEAR FROM THEM AGAIN. EVER. Move on, read the book and start looking for the job you were destined to do versus getting shoved into some cookie cutter. Good Luck.P.S. This is discussed in "What Color Is Your Parachute?" but consider this: You're looking a secretarial job. OK, but where? In a law office? In a landscaping nursery? In a church? Same position, but three very different jobs.
