Byron Said:

Most relevant experience for seeking to work in Govt Intelligence?

We Answered:

The best place to start would be to send an inquiry to the the Agency, letting them know of your interest in submitting an application in the future, and asking what the Agency will be looking for in the way of special skills and training.

I speculate that special training or degrees in law, accounting, psychology and computer skills could all be useful.

Law enforcement training, including intelligence analysis, never hurts, because basic police work is always required, but applicants with LE training are legion, so it would help to have some notable level of expertise in some special area they need that most applicants would not be likely to have -- this would make you stand out in the crowd of applicants.

You never know what the people in that line of work are looking for. Sometime it isn't really a particular skill or background. Generally they want people that are non-discript, outwardly low keyed, and not particularly noticable. Guys that drive middle of the road cars, wear ordinary cloths, live in suburbia and can maintain that kind of cover because that's really them. On the other hand they need to have that certain 'inside' something that keeps them moving forward, playing the game, accumulating results with out making waves. Think in terms of a modern submarine.....nobody ever see it, yet its always there and always dangerous....they don't call them 'spooks' for nothing. Remember,.... the guy in the garbardine suit is a spy..Simon and Garfunkle!

Probably military police officer in the army.

An intelligence officer in the royal australlian airforce may not be the sort of intelligence that is relevant to government. It really depends on what post you're located.

An infatryman has little related to intelligence.

Military police officer on the other hand has things like criminal investigation skills, which involves intelligence gathering, and basicalyl ensuring ethical practices.

For this reasong military police is, in my opinion, the best choice.

Help with mining employment?

We Answered:

If you have trouble finding a mine at all, it's probably because you may not live near any. I have lived around mines all my life and even from far away I would still run into miners, hear news about the mines in newspapers. One thing you could do is go to a sciences school, geology or metallurgy, or maybe even engineering and ask around there.

Experience really counts with govt jobs, especially here in the US. In fact, we give vets preferences over others on govt jobs, and I would imagine yours doing the same.

I would go for the RAAF job myself, if I were you. It would be the most interesting and is in your field of interest, which should give you a leg up on others.

Good luck whatever you choose!
