Temp Employment Agencies

Jerome Said:

How can I get into the field of Recruiting as Job recruiter for temp employment agencies?

We Answered:

I worked as a recruiter for a temp agency several years ago. I wanted to get into HR, but the job was more sales focused so I didn't stay very long.

Well, to make a long story short I contacted the branch manager and told all these wonderful things about me, she brought me in for an interview and the rest is history. In short, call around to different places, ask to speak to the manager, sale yourself over the phone, so that it will interest them in bringing you in for an interview and hopefully they will think your skills and personally are a good match for a position with their company.

Are these temp employment agencies jerking me around?

We Answered:

Be patient but keep calling to remind them you're waiting. I think sometimes they tend to forget about certain people.

How do temp or employment agencies work?

We Answered:

Great Question!!! I used to work for the Federal Gov't, then I was rif'd. (RIF - reduction in forces)

I went to work for a temp agency. They sent me to various jobs where I learned a lot about different types of companies - Big, Small, Medical, Law, Business.

They eventually sent me to a major DC Law Firm, where I immediately decided I wanted to work permanently. I looked around for a full-time job whist temping here, and have been here 25 years now this Sept.

YES! Temping is a great resource in finding a full-time job. Just don't let the initial jumping from place to place throw you off. Temping is a great resource so many people fail to utilize.

Eduardo Said:

Are temp employment agencies suppose to contact u back or vise versa?

We Answered:

In a perfect world, they would call you. However, I was just off for six months (this with 10 years management exp.) and had made contact with 8 different agencies (including in-person evaluations) and not one called me for jobs, but when I called them they had all kind to offer. I'd stay on them at least every 2 weeks.

Barry Said:

what kind of computer tests do they give you at temp. employment agencies?

We Answered:

if you have time, go to a book store, and read read read!!! if you can afford it, there are a ton of books you can buy (try MS Word for Dummies or MS Excel for Dummies) I hate the names, but the books are GREAT!!! really help full, i just bought one for my QuickBooks program, anyways, if you cant afford to buy them, try your local library, take them home and practice before your test. The test are not hard, really just the basics. if you have word or excel on your home computer, just play around on that, that will help. you will also be tested on filing (alpha and numeric), typing and basic office skills.... good luck.
