Has the company "converted" temps to permanent employees before? Some companies never do, some always do.

How much is the fee for conversion through the temp agency? Again, some companies will pay it, some won't.

You have no way of knowing on your first day. Do your best job, bust your butt, never be late or miss work, volunteer to take on extra duties/help out.

Then after a month or so, ask your direct supervisor.

But in Toronto, I wouldn't count on it. The unemployment rate is real high and the company can run an ad in the paper and find a permanent employee without paying the temp agencies fees.

Labor ready is for people who will work hard for minimum wage. We hire temps from them if we don't need any job skills at all like fire watchers. We train them to watch for fires while welders work. They are a quick source of bodies for things your regular employees don't have time for.
Get some skills like office skills and temp where you are doing something interesting that might lead to something but Labor Ready is a pay day right away.

They always kept me busy while I was looking for a permanent job and the pay really well.They also let you choose what part of town you want to work in.
