you can volunteer at an in-patient hospice as a patient visitor. HOWEVER, since the focus of hospice care is helping the person to stay in their own home, you can volunteer to be a visitor to homebound folks. Hospices care for people from the moment of delivery (when it is known that a baby will not survive long after birth) up until 115 years old and everything in between.

Usually there is no hands-on care for volunteers but you can help with everything from reading out loud, conversation, helping with laundry (if YOU choose), companionship...this list is long. This will give you a good idea of how a terminal disease process affects someone physically, emotionally and spiritually, as well as their loved ones.
