Andre Said:

A question for kinesiology students/grads?

We Answered:

Having graduated from Penn State's Kinesiology Program I can list 3 generic focus you would most likely fall under:

1. Athletic Training - Sorry, but this one boils down you becoming a gym teacher

2. Fitness Studies - Really, nothing more than a glorified personal trainer. You create fitness programs for your customers.

3. Movement Science - This was my choice and actually quite a diverse platform for future fields of study and employment.
a) Research - as you know Kinesiology is the science dealing with the interrelationship of the physiological processes and anatomy of the human body with respect to movement. With that being said every athletic company from EVERLAST to Under Armor require Kinesiologists to work with their designers in order to engineer athletic equipment that are more efficient, more comfortable, and last longer when in use. Nike hires tons of us (literally by the ton) to help create their shoes which best contour to the average person's foot and gate. Sounds overwhelming but you'll learn it all throughout the program, especially if you stick around for your Master's.
b) The Movement Science Option is also a FANTASTIC spring board into other fields. The majority of my peers actually used their B.S. in Kinesiology to get into a Physical Therapy Master's program.

Couldn't tell you about the salary, I commissioned into the Army after college and have been loving every minute of it.

Truly hope this helped
