Careers In Health Psychology
Nancy Said:
Careers related to Abnormal and Clinical Psychology? We Answered:
It depends on where you live. In North America, most places require you to have a doctoral degree to be licensed as a psychologist. However, there are still a few places where this is not required. A master's degree would allow you to work under the supervision of a licensed psychologist (called psychological associates or something of the like in some places). It would also allow you to work as a counsellor, including a school counsellor - again, depending on the rules of the state or province where you live. You could also probably find employment as a psychometrist, or as a research assistant. There are actually quite a few opportunities. If you are entering a master's degree program, the program itself should be able to provide you with specific information regarding job prospects for graduates. Good luck!Herman Said:
Business,Psychology or Health care Career ?We Answered:
You could probably get a job in a nursing home or special needs home- as a caregiver, life skills associate, activities assistant, etc. But, it really depends on what you want to do. Do you want to go into health administration or billing/coding? Or, do you want to get into therapy or counseling? Or, do you want to be a nurse? In any of these cases, you might need additional classes or an additional degree.

Required undergrad courses for admission to psychology masters programs? We Answered:
It varies by program, for a psych masters program it usually is around 18 credit hours of psych. Different programs may require specific courses. For genetic counseling you'll probably need to take genetics which requires a year of bio, and the ochem and biochem won't hurt, and yeah they are some of the most difficult courses in college. As an aspiring scholar you should be learning how to research information, so go to websites of programs of interest and check out their prereqs.Ross Said:
Stage 2 - Health Psychology?We Answered:
A good source of information (BPS):http://www.bps.org.uk/careers/society_qu…
One place to start might be the Stage 2 FAQs document here: http://www.bps.org.uk/document-download-…
Or the Qualification in Health Psychology (Stage 2) Candidate Handbook: 2007-2008: http://www.bps.org.uk/downloadfile.cfm?f…
The first step is to identify/find a suitable supervisor (2 yrs post-qualified chartered health psychologist - for a list see BPS downloads link), then apply/enrol, and undertake planned supervised practice to cover the core competencies required for stage 2 – see stage 2 Handbook link for more details. (Course staff from your stage 1 course will also be able to provide you with more information.)
