Careers With A Health Science Degree
Yolanda Said:
what health care careers can you do with a bachelor science degree? We Answered:
Well, unless you took some sort of specialization program (I.e. medical genetics, neuroscience, pharmacology) or a professional program (I.e. Pharmacy, Dietetics, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, etc.), none.Sometimes, a general BSc will get you a position in a research lab, but you typically won't have direct patient contract.
If you want to work in healthcare, which requires specific training, your best bet is to transfer into the healthcare program that you would like. In some cases, you may be able to get another degree in much less time. Some nursing programs allow a BSc holder to finish the program in about 2 years and graduate with a BScN.
Your other option is applying to the professional schools like medicine, dentistry, optometry, etc. Most physio and occupational programs now require a BSc too and are Masters programs (I believe the undergrad programs are being phased out here in Canada, at least in some places).
Why not speak with an employment/career counsellor where you live?
Good luck!
