humanitarin careers that involve travel?

We Answered:

Your best bet is to contact an agency that does the type of humanitarian work you would be interested in and talk to them about what is really needed. Some things are obvious, such as medical personal (Doctors without Borders) - but other may not be so obvious. I bet you could email someone in the PeaceCorp, RedCross, or Heifer International and they'll help answer your questions.

I'm thinking that the most useful fields would be medical, construction (for housing and such), teaching, and agriculture.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you'll want to learn a second language in college. Even to minor in it. The more languages you know, the more valuable you will be.

Good luck to you!

humanitarian careers which includes travel?

We Answered:

Third world countries have seen enough of anthropologists, sociologists and the like. I strongly recommend a career in the medical profession or the development of small business ventures, preferably co-ops.
You will never regret the experience and the wonderful people you meet along the way. I wish you well.

careers involve working for humanity?

That's really cool. I dont know much about this, neither can I offer sufficient help to your question but maybe non profit organizations are something you might like to consider.

I'm a Psychology Undergrad and I'd like to do something for the world in future (3rd world countries etc). The last thing I wanna do is sit behind a desk :)

I'm thinking of working for United Nations (but of course, if other family commitments & etc get in the way, it might be a bit of a problem). Something related would be good too.

Its important to know what you wanna do in future, what will give you satisfaction aka make you happy, what drives/motivates/inspires you and what you'd like to achieve in the end. I think those goals would help.

Maybe you could start with something small which relates to the community or maybe even kids depending on your interests. You could build up experience from there :)

Its nice to meet someone who's driven to make lives better :)
Sorry, my imput wasnt much :)

nursing is the best career to get into if you want to do humanitarian work. they can get jobs anywhere. Regarding Africa, it's really hard to help Africa these days as Bush made it illegal. He threatened criminal prosecution of African American business people who wanted to help Sudan develop its infrastructure. Sudan has a huge underground lake. With some pipes, the country could become the breadbasket of Africa. However, they don't like westerners.

Midwives are very very helpful in developing countries, more useful than doctors because they know how to do natural childbirth techniques which don't require electricity or surgery.
