Darrell Said:

Do you know of any trade schools for careers in health and fitness?

We Answered:

The two links in my source are excellent resources for researching and contacting trade schools in your area, and area of interest.

And good for you for going back to school! A few years ago I finally committed to completing my education and let me tell you, it was well worth it!

I would suggest that you work on the program of losing the weight yourself, and then you can lead by example to the clients that you might work with on how to lose weight, and share your success story with the people that you help.

Usually the people that are successful in this field, are the people that are in shape, or have a fitness regiment going, and are able to suggest people to workout in different ways.

I hope that this helps you. I know a few personal trainers and a few kinesiologists, and they are all into eating healthy, and doing a good fitness regiment.

What are some health and fitness careers?

We Answered:

A personal trainer with a background in nutrition would be what you are describing. If you worked through a gym, they would most likely expect you to have a B.S. in nutrition in order to have the credibility to guide people on their nutrition. If you worked as an independent personal trainer (self employed) you might be able to convince clients you are qualified to give them nutritional advice without a degree but you would have to at least taken numerous nutritional courses to really know what you are talking about. I got a B.S. in Exercise Science and did some personal training for a number of years. I didn't get a degree in nutrition, but I did take many courses so the gyms that I worked at allowed me to advise my clients on their nutrition. Different places will require different credentials. You don't need to get a B.S in Exercise Science to be a personal trainer. I just happen to have gotten that degree and sort of fell into the personal training. It wasn't my initial career goal. Good luck!
