Health Technology Careers

Nathan Said:

Health information technology career?

We Answered:

HIT is a great career, healthcare is one of the most stable fields you can get into and will continue to grow the next 20 years.

That being said, due to the current economy and lay-offs, most new grads are struggling to find jobs, it doesn't matter what field it is. Employers have the luxury of being picky and most are now only hiring experienced employees. So the odds of you getting a job right away are pretty slim.

The best option is to try to get a job at a hospital while in school, preferably in HIM. Hospitals tend to promote from within, so if you are already and employee (and in HIM) your chances of getting a job are better than others, but again, this is not a guarantee and you might have to work a low level job for a year or more (despite you have an associates or bachelors degree) to gain the necessary experience to get hired for a RHIT job.

But if this is a field you are truly interested in, what is a year or so of putting in your time to get a job you really enjoy?

Will I be able to pursue a career in Health Information Technology if I have Hepatitis B and have 3 misdemeano

We Answered:

I work in Health IT and although it may not hurt you, it may be a big problem. The reason is within HIT, you have access to a lot of patient and doctor information. You could have access to billing and payroll information for those medical personnel. All this is outside of the medical offices. Within the medical offices, Hep B may be an issue as I doubt they want to take chances spreading it.

Again, it is not a total loss, especially if you can prove to them that you're so good, they have to let you in even if they have their issues.

Health Information Technology Career?

We Answered:

Good luck! Unless you have some prior experience in a health care setting it's tough out there. I am working for free to get a foot in the door. Make sure you get certified with the national exam, it's key.

Health Careers??? LVN or Radiology Technology?

We Answered:

my advice is to chose the career you feel is more comfortable to you. i am currently an LVN and i love my profession because i am comfortable with it and absolutely love my patients. The job security is an added plus. i strongly advise you not to pick either career just because of money reasons, because the only person that gets hurt with such a decision in the long run is the patient. either career option is a good choice. ANYTHING in healthcare is good to have in the long run, because PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS SICK. From what i seen in my years of healthcare getting into the x-ray field is a whole lot more challenging then getting into nursing. if you feel x-ray tech is better suited for you, then thats is the direction you need to take.
