Choice between two High School elective focuses (Health Science or Math & Science)? We Answered:
In the US, students usually don't learn much of the curriculum that relates to pediatric surgery until they are specializing late in medical school (after their first 4 years of college).Since universities will require you to be proficient at Biology, Chemistry, Science & some Mathematics, I would recommend that you choose the Math/Science focus. This will better prepare you for your undergraduate career, which will in turn better prepare you for medical school.
If you want to study pediatric surgery in depth now, I would get some books that focus on human anatomy & surgery, and check out websites like this (http://www.sempedsurg.org/home), and just browse them for fun.
Hopefully this helps... Good luck with everything! :)

Should i go to college for PARAMEDICS? all advice welcome, undecided high school student..?We Answered:
Honestly a lot of it depends on where you live. As a paramedic the least I made was $8.63 an hour for a small service out in the boondocks. In a big city it can be up to $25.00 an hour.Best thing to do is call an EMS service in your area and ask about a ride along program - most EMS services offer them, then you can see first hand whats it's like. Honestly it really depends on the service you work for. I've had some where I would avg 1 call in 24 hours, and other where I avg'd 20 in 24 hours
Good luck :)
