Advice on selling health insurance? ?

We Answered:

I sell primarily health insurance, and I work for an employee benefits agency. That is all we do. I am licensed to sell life, but rarely use it, unless it is part of a benefits package.

Your best bet is to find an agency like mine. It keeps you focused on health, and in the "group" market. Selling health insurance to individuals can be very difficult in some states. Of course, selling employee benefits isn't easy either. You have to position yourself as a trusted adviser to the business owner.

You will need to be licensed by your state first. Some states give the Life and Health license exam together, so make sure you are studying the right topics.

Should i go for business or a health care major?

We Answered:

You could major in health care administration. However, hospitals are making cuts today too and I think that this is the area that goes first. If you want to be guaranteed a job in health care then you should go clinical (nursing, respiratory therapist, sonographer, ect.)

On a second note, computer information systems is not going anywhere and would be something awesome to go into. Hospitals need IT people too. With all the new technology out there, IT majors are going to be in high demand.
