Yes and yes! I can tell you that if you become a doctor or even a nurse or medical specific field ... you will go far in whatever you want and doors will open for you.

Try the Peace Corp to get some experience and cred (though you won't make money). With your degree, you'll be a shoo-in!

ADDED: Is there not a Canadian equivalent to the Peace Corp? I know Japan has one (a friend of mine's Japanese wife just divorced him to go run off and join it), so I would have assumed that the Western democracies all have them.

Another idea - have you thought about NGOs (non-governmental organizations)? Oxfam comes to mind. And, you might also look at the United Nations - they do lots of work in health areas.

One last thought - look at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. They're all about health issues in the developing world.
