How long does it take to get certified as a Medical Assistant and what courses do you have to take?

We Answered:

To become certified as a MA, you need to graduate from an accredited school... usually the degree is an AAS (Associates of Applied Science) in Medical Assisting... usually around 2 years. As a CMA or RMA, you have to be well rounded in both the administrative and clinical aspects of the career... You need a background of anatomy/physiology, medical terminology, general pharmacology, invasive and non-invasive (clinical procedures) as well as office procedures, accounting procedures, and medical law and ethics, and etc...

Most Important Point--- FIND AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE!!

Leroy Said:

Should i go to school to be a medical assistant while completing my Pre-med courses?

We Answered:

Make sure not to take any medical school pre-med classes like biology chemistry and organic chemistry and physics at a community college. It is against your best interest to take those science classes at a community college.

To answer your question, If you can become a medical assistant it will look good on your application, but volunteering at hospitals and clinics as well as shadowing will suffice almost just as well. Along with shadowing doctors and being an overall well-rounded applicant. Don't let your grades suffer for medical assistant.
