Medical Assistant Training

Ella Said:

Medical assistant training in Austin, Texas. Need advice please.?

We Answered:

Medical Assistants in Austin are LUCKY to make $12 an hour! After my internship I was offered a job with them making $9.50. I couldn't make that little so I ended up staying at my job I had managing a restaraunt. I am paying off a loan now that added up to $12,000 total. I have to say, I wouldn't do it again. The credits don't transfer and you don't even get a real associate degree. I would highly suggest going into Austin Community College and going for a Licensed Vocational Nurse associate and moving into a nursing program. It's much more respected and makes WAY more money.

Everest Institute-what are the pros and cons for medical assistant training?

We Answered:

There aren't too many pros. The real con is the amount of money you'll end up paying for a program that takes less than a year to complete. My friend is still paying off all those unsubsidized loans she had to take out just to go to Everest.

Why do people pay thousands of dollars for medical assistant training?

We Answered:

I live in CA, and my starting pay was $13.50 an hour. Shop around, schools have really different tuitions, but I can tell you, it's a good field to get into because it's stable, and the'yre going to need lots and lots more medical assistants going into the future. I was actually promoted to being a trainer by my employer, so becoming an MA was the smartest thing I ever did. Good luck!

How much did they offer you after finishing Medical Assistant training?

We Answered:

I don't live in New York, but I know that the medical assisting program is similar to that of the medical office assistant program up here in Canada. The difference is that the people in the states deal more with the concept of "back office clinical" duties then the Canadian counterparts. When I was doing my training, it was primarily dealing with the administrative portion, but with the people in the states they are dealing more with the "back office" portion of it.

Training for the medical assisting program, is I believe a degree program, so that would be probably 2-4 years to get. It took me 1 1/2 years to get my medical office assistant training, and you have more practicums with the fact that you have more of the clinical portion, so they need to see that you can manage this first.

There are many types of employers that will higher these sort of people. The types of places would be medical offices, specialty clinics, and also outpatient clinics in hospitals. With the fact that you have both office and back office training, you may also get a chance to work on the wards within the hospital as well.

No I haven't heard anything about being reimbursed about training. If you want to get reimbursed, then I would look for a really large organization like a hospital or something like that, as most of the smaller offices will not have the budget to reimburse someone to become a nurse.

I will provide you with a few links. One link I will provide you with is the text book that I used for, for the clinical procedures, as I believe that also medical assisting students will use this one too.
