Medical Assisting School

Terrance Said:

Better to go to school as a medical assisting or go for radiology?

We Answered:

Many radiology tech programs do not require experience so I would continue looking however, they do require prerequisite courses like anatomy/physiology and biology . Radiology techs usually make more money straight out of school. I know radiology techs that graduated making $20/hour and medical assistants that started making $8-12/hour out of school. It really isn't fair how low some medical assistants make an hour. My friend went to Robert Morris college and earned an Associates in Medical Assisting, gained 5 years experience as a MA and could not get a job that made more than $15.00/hour in CHICAGO!?! She then went to school and became a Registered Nurse in the same amount of time it took for her to become a MA, but now she works as a RN at a great hospital and makes over $30.00/hour with 1 year experience. I would go to Rad tech school or nursing school.

Eugene Said:

Does anyone have any tips on choosing a vocational school for medical assisting?

We Answered:

There are too many MA schools out there. I work with schools for internships and hiring for our hospital. All school are not created equal. Make sure you attend one that has atleast 6 week externship minimum 160 hours - but preferably 180-200 hours. Also make sure that the school has a career placement office that can assist you. Also, it the school qualifies their students to become certified in MA.

I work in the Boston area and know my favorites --so I can give recommedations in California; but if you follow those guide lines and also find out where the school has placed their students for externship will also give you an idea of the quality. Good luck

Good medical assisting school in Utah?

We Answered:

Look and see if you have a "Bryman" school there. They offer M.A. courses that are about 8 months long. If not, we have one here in Phoenix, they will even find housing for you!

Thinking of going to a tech school. Medical assisting, IT support or even radiology?

We Answered:

Medical Assisting is a great one to get into. My Girlfriend is just finishing hers up right now. She is actually doing an externship and then she takes her state boards test and shes certified. Its not as difficult as RN but she has a lot of books and she study's quite often. She is expected to make about $15/hr starting during her probationary period. Then I believe $20-25. She plans to keep going to school and become and RN though. I would definatly go for that. Look at it this way, people dont need cars or TV's or computers and all that. But EVERYONE dies, EVERYONE goes to the hospital, EVERYONE can get hurt at any given time. Your always guaranteed a job. Good Luck Hope I've swayed you a bit.
