Medical Billing And Coding Jobs

Michael Said:

jobs for medical billing and coding in the birmingham alabama area?

We Answered:

Get your resume out to every hospital, medical center, doctors office, clinic, clinical laboratory, etc, in a fifty-mile radius of the city. Network, try to meet people in the medical field who might know someone with a position open. Check your school's Placement Office to see what help they might provide, or what companies are recruiting there now (if any).

Obummercare has already resulted in about half the doctors offices & clinics in many areas being sold out to hospitals. This means consolidation of staff, especially medical file clerks, billing & coding, and related jobs. You are going to work very hard to find work since there is now a glut of such low-level skills on the job market.

Jobs in Medical Billing/Coding?

We Answered:

You are correct, they do mostly require experience. it is difficult to get a job doing coding or billing fresh out of school, because employers know that school only teaches you the basics, and the real learning is on the job.... a lot of employers only hire people with experience, rather than someone who will initially have a lot of learning to do. it took me 2.5 years to finally find a coding job , i started out as a medical receptionist doing "light coding" to get my foot in the door, but I also had to do a lot of the stuff I didn't want to do, like scheduling appointments and answering phone etc... You really learn a lot about it just working in that environment...which helps a lot with the "experience" factor. If you get a receptionist/secretary job at a doctors office, or medical records in a hospital,,,and a coding/billing position eventually comes up, you'll probably be the first they consider for it. especially since you have the schooling and interest for the position. You could also try an internship if your school offers that, but that still won't be the 2 years experience that most require.,,but they may hire you. so really the best way is to slowly break into the field, it's frustrating but if it's what you want to do, it's worth it.

Is there such jobs as medical billing and coding and can you work from home?

We Answered:

"If a company requires initial payment from you in order to work for them, they are not legitimate."

There are a few legitimate data entry companies but are not hiring and have large waiting lists (1-2yrs). The majority of data entry jobs you seen online are scams. A real company will want you to have skills inc fast typing, may want you to know MS Excel, and will usually ask that you have high speed internet. Once in a long while you may found one online on a job website but thats rare.

If you do an advanced search on yahoo, you will find previous answers, sometimes the info on these is good as the info they gave is likely to have been verified if the answer was voted as 'Best'.

If you attend a B & C training program (9 months to 2 years depending), you will get the training like anyone. However, in the US, it is hard to find a job in this field.
