I took court reporting and medical transcription and closed caption at AIB in Des Moines Iowa. It is a two year course, and I would venture to say that it doesn't require a 140 IQ ;or anything like that. I'm not that smart, and I did it! And honestly I did more partying than I ever did studying! I went on after that to become a nurse, but I am sure even if I hadn't I could have made a decent living as a medical transcriber or a closed captionist. (or even a court reporter) 'boring' but you can do it Good Luck

Please forgo both of them! :) Penn foster has had over 200 complaints to the bbb (mentioned on ripoffreport.com) as well as the school having several different names in the past and US Career is another for-profit school.

There are actually Not supposed to be many jobs for the medical biller or coder (or medical assistant) despite what the private $$ schools say. My cousin actually just got laid off from her medical billing job that she'd had for over 5 years.

If still wanting training, please consider the county vo-tech school or community college (perhaps non-credit course) as long as it's accredited within the industry.

A lot of community colleges offer this course, for far cheaper. For example, if you google "Suny Online", you'll get a list of all the classes offered online by the public colleges in NY State, and medical billing and coding is one of the programs offered. Check your state's community colleges first. They are reputable, and will be your least expensive option.
