Medical Lab Technician Jobs
Marshall Said:
Question about Medical Lab Technician/Assistant positions? We Answered:
For a position as a Medical laboratory technician (MLT), you'll likely need need an associates degree in medical laboratory technology. You'll also want to sit for and pass the MLT (ASCP) certification exam (ASCP: American Society for Clinical Pathology). Short of this, it would be very difficult to find a lab willing to hire and train you as an MLT (performing laboratory testing) without the appropriate background. You should be able to qualify for a position as a laboratory assistant or specimen processor with little or no experience (given you have a high school diploma).Good luck.

medical lab technician vs. histotechnology? We Answered:
Lab techs have wider applications & areas where you can work (reference labs, industrial labs, crime labs, research labs etc) AND I think is more interesting than a histotech. Personally. I worked in the lab, but mostly donor room & blood bank, in all areas for 15 years before I moved on.Vicki Said:

The best thing to do is to get a good night sleep. You already should be be ready and you have no idea what they are going to ask. Once you wakeup nice and relaxed you will think more clear and your responses will become that much better.Katie Said:
medical lab technician externship or 1st job?We Answered:
I'm a medical technologist (ASCP) and I distinctly remember my first job! I made a lot of mistakes the first year of working - it took me a good year to start to feel competent as an MT.Don't be so hard on yourself, but do learn from your mistakes. Just remember that it's a waste of a perfectly good mistake if you don't learn from it. Whenever you make a mistake, go over in your mind how and why the mistake was made and what you can change to help you remember to do the job right in the future. Just remember that most people don't learn from other people's mistakes - they only learn from their own.
Let your manager know that you take every mistake very seriously and ask for help in improving. Nothing irks a manager more than in seeing an employee who is flippant about a mistake or an employee who tries to deflect the fault. Owning up to your mistakes sure does take the wind out of a manager's sails.
The type of work you do requires someone of exceptional intelligence. More is expected of you than if you worked in another line of work. Mistakes will happen, but, with time, you will make fewer of them. Just ensure you quickly catch and fix your errors.
