Information about mental health/psychology/etc

We Answered:

Thankfully mental institutions are almost entirely gone. Those were horrific places that were intolerable warehouses for those poor people. Today the majority of mental health patients are treated in a wing of a regular hospital. Perhaps you don't know the difference between what a psychologist does and what a psychiatrist does. You're still very young. It would be best to speak to an academic advisor at your school.
You might be interested in becoming a psychiatric nurse which would take less education than a psychologist or a psychiatrist. To get your doctorate as a psychologist takes about 10 years of post-secondary education and a psychiatrist first has to get their medical degree, so they study for about 12 years after completing high school.
Good luck with your goals!
