Public Health Jobs

Nicole Said:

What kind of jobs can you get with a masters in public health?

We Answered:

You can be a professor at a university or work in a public hospital. You can also work for the government at health centers/clinics or in the health department. About the pay, it depends on where you are planning to work.

How do I get a public health volunteer job?

We Answered:

Go to a hospital and ask to intern. Alot of people I know do that as their final senior project.

How do I get a Job in International Public Health/Development?

We Answered:

I should contact the organisations which did not offer you a job and ask them for feedback. Maybe there is an area where you need more experience. Or maybe you are not presenting yourself as well as you could.

There is sometimes an issue about people's motivation for this kind of work; your potential employer will want to know that you will be a good team player and serve their aims, and respect the aims of the local community, rather than necessarily pursuing a personal agenda of your own.

If you have friends already working in this field, get them to look over your CV and maybe try some mock interview questions on with you. They will have the knowledge to give you honest feedback on how well your responses fit with what they think people are looking for.

Good luck!

How do I get a public-health related job in Las Vegas?

We Answered:

I have to agree with Banananose. We currenlty have a 10% unemployment rate in Southern Nevada so now is not a good time to move here in search of a job (what a change from 1% just 3 or 4 years ago!). The state public health agencies have had a hiring freeze on for about a year and doesn't look to end soon. If you are willing to wait it out and take a job below your level of education in anticipation of an economic recovery, I would suggest applying for a job with Opportunity Village. They offer services to developmentally disabled adults and are always looking for good employees. It may not be exactly in your field, but it is good experience for your resume. You may also want to look into nursing homes as a quality assurance/compliance specialist.
Hope this helps and good luck to you.
