Erika Said:

if your parents?

We Answered:

when i was in h.s. and about to start college, my family fell onto hard time. I am very close to my family and wanted to put off going into school for them so that i could help out with my father and his illness. When i told my mom my plans to help out, she looked at me and said, "you've been with us your whole life. You have helped out, and you have been a good kid. Now it's your turn to go out and start a new life, for yourself. Don't let your family's hard times keep you down, just keep us in your hearts and don't stop loving us and we'll do the same. We will still be family no matter where you go." So just remember that you are an adult (assumedly) and it's your life to live, and while you love your family and want to be close to them, they'll understand if you choose to live far away from them.

What step would you take given these options?

We Answered:

You need to factor family, friends, etc into this. Is your family in Texas or Arizona? If you chose Texas, would you be able to support yourself and your family while you looked for a job? Where would you rather live? What is the economy like in both states, what other types of jobs would be available to you either immediately (texas)or in two years (in the case with Arizona) when your contract is up? Would breaking your contract early have any negative implications on your career?

50 year old guy wants health care career? Too old?

We Answered:

What exactly did you have in mind in the health care field? Because that may impact the answer to this question. Anything that requires a bachelors will take you around 3 years to do because you will have to take all the pre-req science courses (which since you have never had any, you might not like anyway); and even some gen ed classes as your degree is so old (some classes "expire"). So say you apply next year and start, you will be around 55 or 56, starting at the bottom. In reality, yes, you may have a hard time finding a position.

Taking a shorter (1 year or less) training program will get you in younger but may be very hard to actually find a position because the lesser skilled medical positions are pretty impacted (meaning few jobs).

Medical jobs are not in such a huge demand that they are just a dime a dozen for anyone. People are finding it hard to get jobs, even in the medical field. You might want to start by volunteering in a hospital to see if you even want to tackle this tract, given the demands & stresses & requirements. Just do your homework before you begin so you will know exactly what you are undertaking.
