There are plenty of websites that help you with that answer. Anything that gives you job listings. You need to decide on WHERE in the US you want to be. California and New York are not exactly next to each other despite what people might think. Then look at what is open in that area. Then see if there is 'job training' being offered.

The engineering department from E-1 through E-3 is called fireman or FR e-1 (recruit) FA e-2 (apprentice) or e-3 FN (Fireman). The schools depending on if he is planning on going to Nuclear training range from 3 months to 2 years. I imagine he is going to be regular engineering, the schools are all 3 months for that and are in Great Lakes across the street from bootcamp. After A-school (training) he will get a chance to take leave prior to reporting to his next duty station.
