Whoa! I read your question and noted a few answers had been provided. I expected to see those answers beginning their answer with "YOU SHOULD NEVER PAY ANYONE TO GET YOU A JOB". Hmmmph....imagine my disappointment? Your question and phraseology tells me you are young but (as you noted) intelligent. Also, you are somewhat naive but are aware of that, so you are alert. If you call up a few employment agencies, I think that you will learn that laws prevents them from charging you for their service. Here is a trick that I personally witnessed: I was attending a local chamber of commerce breakfast. A part of their agenda is to introduce new members, who then have five minutes to describe their company and positions. She had a line of business owners or managers standing in line to pick up a copy of her resume. If being creative isn't your particular skill, go to the art department and ask one of them to help you out. Maybe even recruit a few people from the schools of Anthropogy, History, English...oh, and the theater department is probably a VERY good idea. Ask them to give you some help...I think you might be very pleasantly surprised. good luck.
