Science jobs in the Boston area?

We Answered:

I think you want Boston MA not Boston PA (Pittsburgh area).

Try getting in touch with Biotech companies in Cambridge or Lexington. There are clusters of them so you could go from one to the other handing out resumes and seeing if you can have an impromptu appointment. You could also see when there are conferences in the Boston MA area and attend their expos with a stack of resumes.

What are your thoughts on Staffing Firms in Boston? I just moved here and am starting my job search. ?

We Answered:

I honestly can not stand the Staffing Firms here in Boston. I find that most of the employees are younger than I am and I am only 26! They are awful will follow-up, and I had one woman cancel our interview 2 hours before!! I have never tried Hollister, but I have heard good things about it. I only really know about administrative staffing firms, so other fields I have no knowledge of how they are. I have heard good things about Winter Wyman, but they do mostly IT, technology.

The two I had problems with were Staffing Now, Inc and Beacon Hill. Staffing Now, Inc cancelled on me and when I emailed the woman back to re-schedule she never got back to me. Beacon Hill is more for big business types i.e. executive firms, etc.

Good Luck! I am going to be honest with you, it is very hard to find a job in Boston right now because of the economy, as I am in the same boat. Hope you like our city!

My fiance and I are considering moving to Boston, where is the best place for us to begin our search?

We Answered:

Are you looking to live right in the city? Somerville & Cambridge are both popular areas that are parts of Boston.
Check out Boston.com - there are links to many other communities.
I live in Framingham, which is a suburb about 15 miles west of Boston - if you're looking for suburbs near Boston - check out the "Metrowest Daily News" for home listings, etc.
DO NOT move where you'll have to commute on 128!!! You'll become suicidal from the traffic!
There are many commuting options into the city: subway, which is called the "T", boat, etc.
Good luck!!
