Whistler job search and general advice - HELP!?We Answered:
Well, if you are referring to a ski resort there is only one company in Whistler and it runs the ski areas on both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. I have included the link below which contains a lot of the information you may want to ask. As for work there always seems to be job openings in a variety of stores and other establishments in the Whistler area. There is a rule of thumb that I have found from talking to various store managers and employees in the Whistler area...if you have a place to stay you can generally find a job. The biggest problem in Whistler is finding a place to stay or at least one that the average person can afford. With the Olympics this coming year the problem is expected to be worse than usual however, if things go as planned, one of the results of the Olympics will be additional housing for people working in the Whistler area. There is emplooyee accomodation in Whistler but, as you may guess, it is in high demand. There are a few places that include accomodation in their employment packages however this is generally only offered to those with specific qualifications (i.e. a Chef at a hotel). Most of the businesses in Whistler rely on their employees to find their own accomodation and I have spoken to managers that have had to lay people off simply because the person could not find a place to live. I have spoken to a variety of people as I travel there regularly and have found some that seemed to have great difficulty and others that had little problem. In most cases it seens that if you know someone who works there it can be very helpful in finding accomodation.

Late night care of child? We Answered:
Find good inhome care or search there are some daycares out there that do 24 hour care, but very few. Maybe you should try to find another job? I know that is not easy but if you cannot find the best care for your child...Alvin Said:

does an elementary school teacher make more money than a child care provider? We Answered:
It depends on where you live and whether you own your own day care. In general, elementary school teachers make more than day care providers. Here in Northern California, where the cost of living is high, substitute teachers make between 110 and $125 a day. 1st year teachers make between $35000 and 45,000 a year. The top of the pay scale at 30 years is between $65,000 and $80,000 a year. The pay scales vary between districts and most districts that pay highly don't pay the teacher's entire benefit schedule. (It can cost a teacher up to $1,000 a month to buy their benefits if it's for a family of 4). A day care owner could make $45,000 or so. The weekly rate here is around $150 - $200 per week. Figure on having no more than 8 children per care giver (that's for 4 and 5 year old kids) Multiply the $1,200 per week out by 52 and deduct your cost of doing business and I think that would be pretty accurate . Like the other answers have mentioned, to be an elementary teacher you will need a bachelor's degree. Here in California it also requires 1 year of post bachelor's degree to get a teaching credential, so you may have educational loans to pay off. Licensed home day care providers need early childhood education units, but it doesn't require a degree. You can get those units at a community college.Hope I helped.

Assistant child care teaching job?We Answered:
Your questions aren't silly. Most of us had no idea what we were getting into when we applied for our first job.Check online (like Craigslist) and your local newspaper for jobs. I would recommend calling to make an appointment to come in for an interview. They will probably ask you a few questions over the phone before setting up the interview and this would be your opportunity to make sure that they have a part-time opening.
Many daycares use both full-time and part-time employees. I would think that you would have a decent possibility of working PT now and FT in the summer. They may be looking for someone to increase their hours in the summer to cover for vacations, etc. or, if it is a program that cares for school-age children, the children who only need PT care during the school year need FT care in the summer.
Most child care centers aren't open on the weekends, but you can always ask.
One piece of unsolicited advice (sorry, can't resist)--before you go in for your interview, make a professional-looking resume. You can include volunteer work that you have done, babysitting, classes you have taken, etc. Just make sure that it is attractive, printed on nice paper and has no typos or misuses of grammar.
Good luck!
