How difficult is it to land an English teaching job in China?

We Answered:

Short answer; EASY. In many parts even just simply looking like a foreigner can get you a job teaching English regardless of qualifications or experience.
Some kind of TEFL is always better, even if it's just for your own confidence as a new teacher and for some 'stricter' countries in Asia it will be a minimum requirement.
Living costs in China are pretty damned cheap in most places (especially if you stay out of the 'big City foreigner/tourist bars and clubs). Real Chinese food is great too, you'll probably find that you'll be able to eat out a lot, even on a basic wage.
As for a 'decent contract', it's hit and miss. Good and bad jobs and good and bad employers are everywhere (Worldwide), sometimes you won't even know until you're already in the job. Just go for it and learn from experience (you can spend too much time researching on the net and that's not always a good thing). Being in the Country you want to work in will be a big bonus as there's nothing like face to face meetings. Remember, jobs are not life sentences and nobody can force you to stay in one if you don't like it. Trust your instincts, have fun and good luck.

finding jobs in taiwan or china?

We Answered:

probably 104.com is the best bet for what you are looking for.

You might be able to score a lecturer position teaching engineering courses in English if you are a native speaker at one of the universities with a masters under your belt.

You really should try and get on with a multinational manufacturing company in a western country and get sent out to china or taiwan to do the quality control programs at the factories. If you apply in country you probably wont get a cushy well paying job, but more of a drone-like management robot job.

It will REALLY help you to have mandarin speaking and some reading/writing, but if you want to deal with only english speakers you will have problems in the manufacturing area, but you might do better in the educational field for operating in English.

you can try your luck at tealit.com and at forumosa.com for links to job ads and help wanted stuff. Good luck!
