Craigs List Job Search

Criags List Job & Credit Card Scam... Will I be the victim of fraud?

We Answered:

GNC health may be legitimate, but that doesn't mean that the person who emailed you really was from GNC Health.

Glenn Said:

job search question???

We Answered:

If you are planning to stay in the same area, you might see if the current agency you are doing your internship with is hiring. This is always the best way to find jobs. Also check with the faculty in your department. They get announcements of jobs all the time. See if your social work club has a job board or offer to create one (then you'll be the fist to know - faculty can send you the announcements they hear of). The local paper is the next best bet followed very closely by the department of employment.

Has anyone had luck with a job search on craigs list?

We Answered:

I've gotten the job I've had the past three years from Craig's list and it is a pretty good job. I've also sold my old portable dishwasher on there.

Nellie Said:

Why can I not respond to Craigs List ads?

We Answered:

Many web sites use an HTML command called MAILTO:. It is an easy way to handle email since they do not have to design forms and handle the mail themselves. The command transfers to the "default" email program which is normally Outlook Express or Windows Mail on a PC. If you are using email at a web site it is easier to just copy down the address and the type it into the TO box manually.

Craigslist email addresses have this format: xxxx-aaaaa-1111111111@craigslist.org.
Just type it into the TO line.

Craigs list Job searching in Chicago?

We Answered:

Craigslist is a giant online classifieds site, and, for Chicago, it's free for employers to post their jobs. So a lot of junk is posted, as you've noticed. And, if you post your resume, everyone and anyone can see it, so you get a lot of junk mail, too.

I interview people about how they got their latest job, and for 2006, IF a Website was part of a successful job search, Craigslist was the site specified the most often - more than twice as often as Monster, CareerBuilder, and HotJobs combined!

Networking - a friend, family member, former colleague, former boss, former roommate (etc.) recommends someone to the boss and they are hired - was mentioned more than 90% of the time, so that's the key. Make sure all your friends and family, former co-workers, former bosses, former roommates, etc. know that you are job hunting and know what job you want.

These 2 Websites are the best sources of jobs:

1.) Indeed - http://www.indeed.com

Indeed is true "job search engine." It's a "job aggregator" which collects jobs off big job sites (like Monster, HotJobs, Dice, CareerBuilder, etc. but NOT Craigslist) as well as many other smaller sites and even employer Websites. So, it's a great place to do one search that covers more Websites and employers than you would think of yourself.

For example, I just did a quick search on Indeed for "accountant" and it returned 95,247 results. A search on "accounting" returned 404,099 results!

With over 8,700 links to employers and career resources, organized by state or specialty, Job-Hunt will help you identify possible employers and also job search networking and local support groups to help you with your networking.

For each state, Job-Hunt links to an average of over 150 local resources and employers:

- - local job sites and online classifieds
- - state and local governments

- - banks and financial companies
- - internet and technology companies

Customize your resume and cover letter to each opportunity - highlight experience and education you have that fits their requirements. After you apply for a job on a job site, follow up. Call or stop by to see if they have any questions about you, and what the next steps in the process are. Be politely, relentlessly persistent.

Good luck with your job search!
