When I was 17, I worked at a movie theater. Free movies, free popcorn and free candy... basically all you really need. Honestly, if you want to go into dentistry, you'll have plenty of time to work for dentists. At 17, find a funny job that you can laugh at later in life. A little customer service experience also goes a long way in any job you get in the future. Everybody goes to the movies, so you get a good feel for dealing with different types of people, plus you can rot people's teeth so you'll have more customers in your future career as a dentist!

As far as where to look, just showing up and walking into a place shows a lot of initiative, and it is a good opportunity to make a good first impression. Good luck!
